Hunting Bow Review: Bear Threat R.T.H. Package
We were able to spend a few weeks tuning and shooting the Bear Threat Ready to Hunt package thanks to the help of Shooter’s Choice in Waterloo, Canada.
This package retails for $600 US and comes with the bow itself, along with a nice collection of accessories like a four-pin Trophy Ridge sight, Whisker Biscuit arrow rest, Trophy Ridge five-arrow quiver, stabilizer, peep sight, D-loop, and wrist sling. All you need to start practicing are arrows and a release aid.
Getting sighted in with the Trophy Taker four-pin sight was fairly simple. Horizontal gang adjustment marks are a bright white and very easy to read, but the vertical marks are black on black. Moving individual pins was a clean and simple process. All told, this is high quality sight for a bow package.
Our biggest issue with the accessories was the peep sight. We weren’t able to get it quite high enough on the string before the serving got in the way. This forced us to have to bend our head down slightly to look through the peep, causing some form issues.
Bear makes the Threat available in five different color options, including Shadow, Sand, Olive, Orange and camo. Our test bow came in Shadow and the finish quality was outstanding. This looks very much like a flagship bow.
Bear also gets top marks for its strings. The orange and black strings on our bow look fantastic and the serving on the end loops held up very well throughout our testing.
Setting up the proper draw length is as simple as rotating the mods in the each cam and moving the draw stop. This can all be done without the use of a bow press and just takes a couple of minutes. The Bear Threat offers draw length adjustments from 25 to 30 inches in half-inch increments.
I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Bear Threat when it came to shooting it.
On the plus side, it is far and away the fastest of any of the budget bows we tested. With the limbs maxed to 60 pounds at my 29-inch draw length, I recorded an average speed of 288 feet per second with a 380-grain Black Eagle Zombie Slayer arrow.
