Adjusting the brace height on a compound bow is an important step towards getting the most out of your bow’s performance. The brace height is the distance between the string and the pivot point on the upper limb of the bow. It affects both the speed and accuracy of the arrow, so setting it correctly is paramount. Fortunately, this is an easy job and doesn’t require a great deal of experience.

HOW TO ADJUST BRACE HEIGHT ON A COMPOUND BOW?
(i) Measure the brace height
To begin, you’ll need to measure the current brace height. A standard archery arm guard is a good tool for this purpose. Measure the distance from the center of the pocket on the guard to the string. Record the figure, as you’ll be using it later.
(ii) Adjust the limb bolts
Next, you’ll need to adjust the limb bolts. These are found on either side of the bow, where the limbs attach to the riser. With an adjustable bow, you can use an Allen wrench to turn the limb bolts either clockwise or counterclockwise. Clockwise increases the brace height and counterclockwise decreases it.
(iii) Set the desired brace height
Of course, you’ll need to know what brace height you’re aiming for. A good starting point is 7 to 7.5 inches. However, this number could be different depending on the bow you’re using. Check the manufacturer’s guide to confirm the optimum brace height for your bow.
Once you know what brace height you’re aiming for, turn the limb bolts until the measured brace height matches the desired one. Continue adjusting the bolts in small increments until the two figures match.
(iv) Check the gap
Finally, you’ll need to check the gap between the upper and lower limbs when the aim is achieved. When the desired brace height is set, the gap should be symmetrical and even. Any gaps on either side indicate brace height isn’t set correctly. In this case, readjust the limb bolts until the gap is even.
Adjusting the brace height on a compound bow is an important part of the setup process. It ensures the bow is performing at its best and allows the archer to achieve peak accuracy and speed. By following the simple steps above, adjusting the brace height will be a quick and easy process.
