Prepare Your Bow
Before you begin the process of stringing a compound bow, it’s important to make sure that it’s ready for that process. Ensure that your bow is free of any damage, such as dents in the risers, and that there is nothing obstructing the string, such as twigs or dirt. Once your bow is supplied, unscrew the limb bolts slightly, only enough to cause a slight bending in the limbs. Then, move onto the next step.
Adding on the Rest of the Parts
Before you can actually begin stringing your compound bow, certain parts need to be added onto the bow. This includes the string stop, which is added to the upper cam, and the nocking point, which is added to the lower cam. Once these are added and positioned where they should be, take the string and place it in the cam grooves. Make sure that the knot at the end of the string is in the top loop of the upper cam.
Tightening the String
Now you’re ready to start stringing your compound bow. First, attach the string’s end-loop to the lower cam by looping it through the cam. Next, pull the string back up to the top cam and loop it into the top half of the cam, then pull the remainder of the string to make sure it’s properly secured around the cam.
Limb Bolts & Finish
With the string now wrapped around the top and lower cams, all that’s left is to adjust the limb bolts. The bolts need to be adjusted so that the limbs are evenly bent and the string is able to move without hindrance. You may need to make some small adjustments to the limb bolts to get the string to fit the bow perfectly. Make sure that the string is still freely moving when the adjustments are done and you’re ready to go.
Stringing a compound bow can be a complicated process, but it’s one that’s necessary for any archery activity. With the right knowledge and with enough practice, you should have no trouble making sure your bow is strung and tuned to perfection. Make sure to take the extra time to string your bow correctly and enjoy the accuracy it can bring!
