Gear Up
Before a hunt, it’s best to familiarize yourself with current regulations and game laws specific to your hunting area. Depending on the state, taking two bears in two days off the ground with a recurve bow may require having a Hunting License and/or an archery tag in order to participate. Make sure to check all the regulations before setting up a hunting trip as any violations of the law may result in fines or loss of privileges.
Building the Skillset
Next, before venturing out on the hunt, it is important to be confident in the skillset required. After ensuring all required gear is prepared and packed, it is essential for the hunter to have a familiarity of the hunting area and to understand the characteristics, habitats, and patterns of the game. Establishing a thorough knowledge of where to find the game is key to a successful hunt. Additionally, a proficiency with archery gear and the practice of ethical and accurate shooting are paramount. Manage the challenges of distance, height, and angles of the shot. Refine the skills of aiming, as well as estimating distances and angles.
Set the Stage
With the gear packed and the knowledge of the area established, the hunt is ready to begin. Set up a ground blind, or scout out an elevated point to shoot from. Utilize the skills of scouting and staying downwind, patient and still, for longer periods of time. Remember, getting close to bears requires an exceptional amount of knowledge and practice to carry out in a safe and successful manner. Be aware that the hunt may require proper clothing for any weather conditions the hunter may encounter.
Pull the Trigger
The greatest moments of the hunt is when it becomes possible to draw the recurve, aim through the peep-sight and arrow nock, and finally fire off the arrow. The sequence of checking the backstop, draw weight, and alignment of sight window need to be followed in order to verify accuracy of the shot. With the shot successfully delivered, it is time to verify the location of the bear, check the tracks, and make sure all the regulations were followed.
Taking two bears in two days off the ground with a recurve bow is a formidable task when it comes to hunting. However, the reward of ethical hunting, coming out with clean kills, and achieving a life long accomplishment is the greatest prize. A victory filled with a sense of respect for the natural game, and admiration of the process of the hunt.
