Tool and Material Selection
Before starting to build the bow, you should consider the tools and materials you will need. It is important to choose the right ones to ensure the best possible outcome. Use the following list of resources as a reference for when you start your project:
- Bow Press
- Compound Bow String
- Wooden Shims or Blocks
- Metal Shim Stock
- Bow Vise
- Allen Wrenches
- Tenon Saw
- Brass Screws and Nuts
- Fine Sandpaper
Gutting the Bow
Now it’s time to start the actual construction process. The first step is to gut the bow. This means you will have to disassemble the bow so that the frame can be completely exposed. Start by removing all of the screws and nuts on the bow and setting them aside. You should also note any spring-loaded parts so that you can easily re-assemble them later on.
Fitting the String
Once the bow is gutted, you can begin to fit the string into positions. To do this, attach the Bow Vise to the frame and place the Compound Bow String on a flat surface. Make a loop with the Bow String and place it into the Bow Vise. Mark the exact center of the Bow String with a pen and thread the loop through the frame of the bow. Take the Bow String off the flat surface and fit it into the frame.
Center Shot Adjustment
The next step is to adjust the center shot of the bow. This requires you to use three shims or two metal shim stock of different thicknesses. Place the two shims or one metal shim into position and use the Allen Wrenches to tighten them down. Then place the third shim or metal shim at the very center of the bow and begin to adjust the center shot by slightly loosening the Allen Wrenches. This will help to keep the string in the center when using the bow.
Finishing
After all the adjustments have been made, the final step before you can use the bow is to finish it. Use the Tenon Saw to carve the shape of the frame. Make sure to be careful and not to make the shape too thin. Then sand the frame using the Fine Sandpaper to give it a nice and smooth finish. Finally, use the Brass Screws and Nuts to reassemble the bow and make sure that everything is in the right place.
Making an ultra compact compound bow, center shot may seem intimidating, but with the right tools, materials, and know-how, it is a completely achievable project. Take the time to thoroughly research the tools and materials needed and the steps required to successfully build the bow. Once you have done that, you will be able to create an ultra compact compound bow, center shot that is perfect for you.
