- Bow String Serving
- String Nocks
- Nocking Loop Clamp
Step 1: Attaching the Nocks
Start off by attaching the two string nocks to the bow string ends. The nock should be installed so that it is flush with the bow string, so that it won’t cause obtrusive loops or catches on the string when it is drawn.
Step 2: Preparing the Serving
The next step is to prepare the serving material. For this, take a length of bow string serving that is a few inches longer than the bow string itself. Thread the serving through the nocking loop clamp and wrap the clamp around the bow string. This will ensure the serving doesn’t unravel.
Step 3: Wrapping the Serving
Once the serving is prepped, you can begin wrapping it around the bow string. Start at one end and work your way to the other, making sure you wrap tightly and evenly. Leave a few inches at the end unserved so you can use it to tie off the bow string.
Step 4: Tie Off
Once both ends are served, all that’s left is to tie off the ends. You’ll be left with a nice-looking, durable bow string ready to shoot. Make sure you keep your bow string waxed and lubricated to ensure longevity and optimal performance.
Creating a bow string is a great way to customize your bow and take pride in your gear. With the right materials and a bit of time, you can make a reliable and functional bow string for your bow. With proper maintenance, your bow string can last for years and remains an important component for good shooting technique and form.
