Taking up the sport of archery is an amazing way to stay active and get more in touch with nature. It’s also a unique way to de-stress after a long day. With that in mind, I recently decided to invest in a compound bow to get started. This article reviews what I encountered along the way and why I ultimately chose the archery equipment I did.

Getting Started
The process of buying the perfect bow began with research. I decided to narrow it down to two types – a recurve bow and a compound bow. After reading about the pros and cons of each bow type, my personal preference ended up being the compound bow.
The comparison between the compound bow and the recurve bow is simple: the compound bow has more advanced technology and a added “let off” — this can be described as the reduction in draw weight within the bow’s cam system when you reach the end of drawing back the string. This makes it easier to cock back and draw for greater accuracy. A recurve bow requires more strength and technique and offers less accuracy than compound bows.
Choosing A Bow
Once I decided on the type of bow I wanted, I then had to choose the specific bow, as there are many types and sizes on the market. Each bow has its own size, draw length, draw weight and features.
Draw length is the distance between the bow and string when the bow is fully drawn. Draw weight is the force it takes to pull the string back. The string draws back more with draw weight. It needs to be strong enough to hit and penetrate your target with precision but not too heavy that it causes you fatigue from shooting.
Bows come with different features including sights, arrow rests and stabilizers. Some bows are even designed specifically for 3D archery, bow fishing, or bow hunting. Ultimately, I chose the SAS Rage 70 lbs 30” RH Compound Bow Package for my needs.
Accessories
With the bow chosen, it was time to purchase the essential accessory. I settled on getting an arm guard, as it helps to protect against any form of discomfort or injury from the string of the bow. This is especially important when your bow has a higher draw weight like mine. I also picked up a quiver to store my arrows, a bow stand, and a release aid for comfortable shooting.
Arrows
The next step was to find the arrows and their associated parts that would best suit my bow. I found arrows in different materials such as aluminum, carbon or fiberglass. Additionally, each arrow had different points which are important as they impact the accuracy of the shot.
Finally, I needed to get a good arrow rest to stabilize the bow when shooting. As such, I decided to invest in a whisker biscuit arrow rest for the comfort and accuracy.
The process of buying a compound bow was a journey. From researching different bow types to choosing the accessories, I took the time to understand the fundamentals of archery to make the best decision. With an emphasis on features and quality, I invested in a SAS Rage compound bow with all the necessary accessories. Finally, I found the arrows and arrow rest needed to make a perfect shot. With all the proper equipment on hand, I am excited to begin my archery adventure.
Ok so… I bought a COMPOUND BOW | Actual IRL Archery
It’s the Horizone Air Bourne RTH Compound Bow. Probably don’t need to splurge on my first Compound Bow especially if I don’t really know for a fact what I’m looking for yet in one yet.
