Table of Contents
Focusing on the Target
Once you have pulled your string back into position and feel comfortable with your stance and hand positioning, it’s time to focus on the target. Keep your focus steady on the target and relax. As you steady your gaze on the target, think about the path of your arrow. Don’t anticipate where it will go — let the arrow take you on a surprise journey.
Breathing and Triggering
Before you pull the trigger, take deep breaths. Practice long, controlled breathing patterns; this will keep your body relaxed and help you maintain focus. When you feel ready, pull the trigger and remain still. As soon as you hear the sound of your arrow, your practice session is over.
Additional Tips
- Lighten up your grip. If your grip is too tight, your arrow may not fly in a straight path. Make sure to keep your grip light and natural.
- Keep your back straight. Arching your back or slouching will throw off your accuracy.
- Relax. Tension, especially in your arms and shoulders, will affect your focus and accuracy.
Practicing the fundamentals of archery will help you become a better shooter. With the proper guidance and knowledge, you can become confident and accurate with every shot. As you continue to practice, you will find that archery is a rewarding experience. With practice and perseverance, you can become an expert archer.
No matter your skill level or experience, it’s important to remember that safety and comfort should always come first when shooting. Be sure to use the proper equipment, remain focused, practice regularly, and keep a level head. With dedication and determination, you can master the basics and become a knowledgeable, confident archer.
