Keeping your aim steady when you’re pulling a trigger can be a challenge. This ability is known as getting two in the torso, which is the most accurate way to shoot. The tips that follow will help you stay target-locked while keeping your steadiness constant when shooting.

Controlling Your Breath
You want to breathe naturally and deeply when aiming. Pay attention to the way you are breathing and try to keep your breath even and slow. You don’t want to take too many breaths in between shots. Make sure you are taking slow breaths, and exhale during the time that you are squeezing the trigger. When you have to hold your breath for more than a few seconds, take smaller breaths to limit movement.
Using a Natural Point of Aim (NPOA)
To make sure your shots are hitting your target, you need to get into NPOA. This method is when you align your body and eyes with the target so that your shots are accurately hitting the desired spot. You will find that you can maintain a steady position while still having the opportunity to make adjustments.
Technique towards sustaining the NPOA
- The squeeze technique: Aim your sights at the desired target and take in a breath. Then, focus on your sights and keep them square with the target as you slowly let out your breath, no more than half of it. When your lungs are about half empty, begin to squeeze the trigger.
- Timed breathing technique: Before you take shot, take in a full breath and then slowly let it out. When you’re coming to the end of the exhale, begin your squeeze and your shot should be just as your breath ends.
- The threshold technique: With the threshold technique, you will need to build up a rhythm to hold your sights steady on the target. Take a breath in when you’re aiming, then let out your breath and stop squeezing when you reach your level of comfort. When you reach that point, take your shot.
Other stability techniques
- Grip techniques:Your grip on the gun can play an important role in steadying your shots. You want a firm grasp during your sighting that will be strong enough to keep your sight from moving while still not being so strong that your shots will be affected by muscle fatigue.
- Shooting off a rest: Using a rest is always a good idea when you’re having difficulty with stability, as it can help you keep your body still and your gun centered on the target. A steady shooting position will ensure accuracy.
- Muscle relaxation:When you are in position, you should also take the time to relax the muscles in your arms and shoulders. Make sure that your breathing and heart rate are steady before you begin firing your gun.
Staying focused on the target and having a steady aim is critical to good marksmanship. With some practice and honing your technique, you can become more accurate with your shots. By following these tips and techniques, you can have a strong two in the torso for every shot.
